Compliments of the season!
We are very grateful to God for bringing us to the end of First Term of the academic year 2020/2021 session. We thank the Lord for enabling us effectively execute all our goals this term despite the challenges encountered globally as a result of the lock down caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. I wish to say a very big thank you to all our parents for the overwhelming support you gave us and your children throughout the term. May none of your effort be in vain!
ACTIVITIES OF THE TERM
NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION
This event took place on Monday, 30th September 2019 in the school grand hall. Our students, staff and parents appeared in different and colourful Nigerian traditional attires. Promoting patriotism amongst our young adults and citizens in general was our focus. It was a fun-filled and educating event. Thanks to all our parents who joined us in celebrating our great country, Nigeria.
OPEN DAY
This year’s National Day Celebration was done online on Thursday, 1st October 2020 between 10am to 12pm. It was a colourful celebration; students and teachers were beautifully groomed in their different cultural wears and presented in several ethnic ways. Thanks to the school management, teachers and parents for making the day a reality. Kudos to all New Hall Students.
REMEDIAL CLASSES
Remedial classes are normally held after the first CA between 3pm and 4pm Monday to Thursday. Unfortunately, because of the limited time to cover the scheme for the term, we could not hold remedial classes for all levels.
However, we look forward to a better term come January for a proper remedial programme for all our students.
ACADEMICS
The grades from first and second Continuous Assessments were added to students’ grades in this just-concluded examination which gives their overall grades for the term. Some of our students have improved in their performance while some need to work very hard to boost their performance. Quickly, I will use this medium to remind all parents of our promotion criterion: For the upper college, 70% in all prerequisite/compulsory subjects while lower college must attain 60% in mathematics, English and science and at least an average of 60% in the overall grades. Nonetheless, we do not encourage lower grades in other subjects taken as well.
HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION FOR TERMINAL CLASSES
We recommend all our Year 9 and Year 12 students to resume in the hostel from January 2021. This is to enable them concentrate on their studies and prepare better for their external examinations using the school’s standard facilities. External Examinations; WAEC will commence from March 2021 for Year 12 and April for Year 9. Also note that Year 9 will be sitting for both Checkpoint and BECE in April 2021.
Please note
All Year 11 students sitting for the IGCSE in Oct/Nov will be required to stay in the hostel during the summer school period for thorough exam preparation. Further details on this and financial implications will be sent to concerned parents.
OCT/NOV IGCSE REGISTRATION FEES
We implore all our parents to conclude the payment of IGCSE registration fees on or before February 26th 2021. Please, contact us for more information.
MANAGEMENT DECISION ON G.C.E. REGISTRATION FOR NEW HALL STUDENTS
It is important that students concentrate on the designed curriculum of the school which prepares them for our registered examinations; WAEC, IGCSE, CHECKPOINT AND BECE. Registering students for G.C.E which is a private WAEC Exam with different curriculum shifts their concentration from the school’s programmes. It also causes absenteeism and reduced attendance in class activities.
The consequence of this is poor performance for students who are already preoccupied with extra work. We will appreciate if our students are not burdened with this. We trust your support in this matter to help these students achieve the best!
2020 PREFECT INAUGURATION
This year’s prefect inauguration was done in a grand way. After election of prefects by students, they presented their manifestos in the presence of the whole school which includes the management team. Yes, we’ve got the best and we are proud of all our students. Congratulations to all the decorated prefects, we trust in your leadership style!
TABLETS
New Hall customized tablets are available to students from Year 9 to Year 12. Class Management software which makes it possible for teachers to monitor students’ use and control where necessary has been made available and is currently in use. The tablet costs #85,000. Please, visit the accounts office to get your child’s copy if you have not done so.
STUDENTS’ DRESSING
Short skirt (above knee level) and slim-fitted/ short trouser is not allowed in school. Based on this, we advise parents to visit the school’s account office to purchase a new school uniform for students who fall into this category.
More so, any other shirt aside New Hall shirt and Sport wear is not permitted to be worn to school. Only White runners on Sportswear, long white socks and black shoes on school uniform are allowed. Ankle or coloured socks, sweater other than school sweater are not allowed to be worn to school. Please, read through the student’s handbook for more information. We would appreciate your cooperation.
PUNCTUALITY IN SCHOOL
A gentle reminder that all students are expected to be in school latest by 7:40am so as to meet up with the assembly. New Hall International School frowns at lateness and absenteeism without prior notice to the school authority.
LATE PICK-UP
I appeal to all our parents to improve on the pick-up time. We advise all students to be picked up early enough so that they can rest and be refreshed for other tasks ahead. We appreciate your cooperation!
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
This is a subtle reminder to all our esteemed parents that birthday celebration is no longer allowed in school due to Covid-19 pandemic. We need to abide by all safety precautions to protect our children. We shall review this decision as soon as we overcome this global challenge.

HOLIDAY PROJECT/ASSIGNMENT
All projects and holiday assignments should be done during the Christmas break and submitted on resumption. These projects/assignments would be part of the next assessment for next term. All parents should please follow up at home and be sure that their wards adhere to instructions given.
PAYMENT OF SCHOOL FEES
We would like to implore all our highly esteemed parents to make second term school fees payable on or before Monday, 4th January 2021. All students with first term outstanding fees will not be allowed to resume for second term.
BOARDER’S RESUMPTION
All boarders are required to bring their receipts/clearance from the accounts office with them while resuming on Tuesday, 5th January 2021. Boarders without their clearance would not be allowed into the hostel.
BOYS: Every student is to come with his hair clippers to barb.
ALL BOARDERS: Mosquito net is compulsory for all boarders. Please, replace damaged one or get one if you do not have.
COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

SECOND TERM THEME
Our theme for second term 2020/2021 academic session is “Global Competency”. Our assembly presentations, gender topics and other discussions will largely focus on this theme for the coming term.
Please be reminded that our theme for the whole session is “redefined learning” and in first term, we looked at “digital citizenship”.
The redefined education globally which embraces technology has encouraged learners to take intellectual steps and work collaboratively with peers and educators. Education is viewed beyond just the cognitive and learners are exploring it.
New Hall School is fully utilizing the 21st Century Methods of Teaching/Learning.
Please note: All students (both physical and virtual) will be sitting for their termly examinations in the school building from next term.
COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND SAFETY PRECAUTION
New Hall International School has ensured that all safety precautions as pertained to the global pandemic was adhered to throughout the just concluded term.
Wash-hand basins and hand sanitizers were installed at strategic places. Body temperatures of students/pupils, staff, parents and visitors were checked at the school entrance, the use of face mask was made compulsory and sick people were kept out of the school premises.
Nonetheless, we are not relenting our effort in ensuring that all precautions are effectively followed by all stakeholders.
We therefore advise that as we go for vacation during this festive season, we protect ourselves and our children. Your safety first!

IMPORTANT DATES AND GENERAL INFORMATION
- All school fees are to be paid on or before Monday, 4th January 2021.
- All boarders are to make their payments and come along with their receipts/clearance from the accounts office while resuming on Tuesday, 5th January 2021 before 5pm.
- School resumes for second term on Wednesday, 6th January 2021 at 7:40am
- No contraband items such as mobile phones, canned or glass foods or drinks, electronic items will be tolerated in the hostel.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT/CAROL SERVICE
This year’s Christmas concert/carol service was held virtually on Tuesday, 22nd December 2020. All level from the Nursery section to the college had a presentation to celebrate the yuletide.
Kudos to all our teachers and students/pupils for making the celebration a beautiful one. We also appreciate the support from all our parents.
STUDENT’S TERMLY REPORT AND SECOND TERM RESUMPTION
First term examination ended on Friday, 18th December 2020 and we closed for the Christmas break/first term on same day.
- First term results will be available for viewing on schooberry from Wednesday, 29th December 2020.
- Second term resumption for boarders is Tuesday, 5th January 2021.
- School will resume for academic activities on Wednesday, 6th January 2021.
CONCLUSION
We encourage parents/guardians to monitor what the children read, do on the internet and watch on television especially during the vacation. Social media can be disruptive to our children’s moral and development. Vigilance is the watchword.
